Round the Island Race 2004
First sailed in 1931, the Round The Island race still competes for the Gold Roman Bowl, the legendary trophy presented by the race's founder Cyril Windeler.
Little did he realise what he was starting!
Today, It is one of the world's biggest yacht races with over 1,500 yachts, (that's more than 10,000 sailors), making the annual Round The Island one day race the yachting worlds equivalent of the London Marathon.
The race appeals to yachtsmen and women of all standards, from family crews for whom this may be the only race of the year to regular competitive teams and professional yachtsmen and women looking for record-breaking times in stunning international grand prix yachts from maxi-yachts to the smallest offshore categories, and from speedy multi-hulls to sedate old-timers, and Admirals Cuppers. Indeed, the race is a multitude of races within a race.
