| "ATOMIC" WINS CLASS 0 IN THE 2006 ROUND THE ISLAND RACE.
Congratulations to Tony Langley, Stephen Plant and the Langley Holdings Piller team for a superb result in their Farr 45 "Atomic" in the 2006 Round the Island race. Race1s Philip Crebbin acted as tactician and back-up helmsman for Tony Langley and the Race1 team manage and look after Atomic.
Not only did they win IRC Class 0 to win the J P Morgan trophy, against a strong fleet of well sailed and mostly larger racing boats, but they also got a gun for being in the first three monohulls to cross the finishing line, behind only two much faster TP52s and ahead of many larger boats like the Farr 52s.
In fact, Atomic was for a time first monohull on the water when entering the eastern Solent. They had a close fight with two other Farr 45s, Rebel and John Merricks that ended second and third in Class 0, and fought the TP52s hard all the way to the line, with Panthera, in second on the water behind Red, pipping Atomic by a mere 10 seconds.
Other Race1 boats included NHBC in the Race1 Ker 11.3 "Skipjack", who came 24th in IRC Class 1A. The Sydney 40 "Spirit" did particularly well, finishing 5th in Class ISC 4A and as high as 17th overall in the ISC division.
