"Ker 11.3's take Queen's Cup"
- James Boyd. 4th August, 2001.
Jason Ker's new design dominates Royal Southampton Y.C.'s race day at Skandia Life Cowes Week.
Surprisingly for a class of boats designed primarily for the IRM rule, it was two of Jason Ker's new 11.3s which took the two top spots in the Queen's Cup today at Skandia Life Cowes Week.
Michael White's On A High and David Brown's I-Site came first and second respectively in class 1, racing under the IRC rating, finishing in 05:34:10 and 05:37:23 on corrected time ahead of class 0 winner Kit Hobday and Tim Louis' Farr 52 Bear of Britain. Among White's crew was former America's Cup helm Phil Crebbin of Race 1 Management who were behind the creation of this exciting boat. It will be interesting to see whether the 11.3s can continue to repeat the form of Ker's Roaring Meg, which performed so spectacularly at the Commodore's Cup.
