V6 Sportsboat - Introduction |
|||||||
| In an exciting development for the future of the Viper class in Europe, Race1 has completed a deal with Viper Boats Europe Ltd whereby the remaining stock of Viper 640s in this country and the ongoing rights to market the boats in Britain and Europe have now been transferred to Race1 Ltd.
Philip Crebbin, a Director of Race1 Ltd, has long been a supporter of the Viper 640, starting from when he assisted with the final development of the class in the USA in 1996. Philip comments, "The Viper 640 is still one of the most fun boats I have ever sailed. I think it is perfectly suited to this side of the Atlantic, where there is a large infrastructure of sports dinghies with asymmetric spinnakers as well as regular, more traditional dinghies and larger sportsboats".
Race1 is in discussions with Viper Boats in the USA with the aim of bringing moulds to England in order to start construction over here. It is planned that White Formula will build the boats and Race1 will market them from their base at Hamble Point marina. It is expected that demonstrators will also be available in Burnham and Chichester Harbour. There are also plans to build and market the Viper 830, the equally exciting big sister of the Viper 640, designed by New Zealander Steve Thompson. 8 are already sailing in the USA and their spectacular performance has caused many raised eyebrows. To take advantage of this opportunity as well, Race1 is in the process of looking for a business partner for the Viper Division. |
